Press Release Summary: According to a report by the MPs, in order to increase road safety, reduce accidents and bring down car insurance claims, the government must increase the legal driving age
Press Release Body: London, 5 September 07 (thinkinsurances): Road safety is one of the growing concerns in UK. Considerable thought is being given to improve the driving conditions as well as the safety of the drivers and the commuters on the road. Road safety and car insurance are connected inversely, i.e. the higher the safety conditions, the lesser the motor accidents and the fewer the car insurance claims. Recently a report compiled by the MPs has highlighted ways in which road safety can be improved and car insurance claims brought down considerably.
The most important highlight of the report is that the government should raise the legal driving age to 18 years. Also, learners must be trained strictly according to a set syllabus by their driving instructor. It must also be made necessary for all learners to sit for an additional hazard perception training. These steps would greatly prevent accidents caused by new motorists, and in turn reduce car insurance claims as well. Use of dual control vehicles while training and extensions of the training period, if necessary, are other points that have been mentioned in the report.
This report has been rendered tremendous support by a majority of groups, prominently by the Road Safety Group.
